The exhibition explores our relationship with the sea as a way of recognizing it: bodies made of water, matter that participates in the same living world and a planetary cycle from which we are part. The very idea of “nature”, built in Western tradition as that external to human beings, has consolidated a dualistic view that separates culture and nature, subject and world; in the 17th century, Spinoza already opposed this dualism and proposed the idea of human beings as an “empire within another empire”, while Merleau-Ponty proposes a “interlace” between body and world, where the border between the perceived and the perceived becomes porous.
From this double perspective, the works propose to understand the sea not as an outer landscape that we contemplate, but as an extension of our own body: a common matter that questions the separation between the human and that which we call nature.
